TRAINING MODULES
Integrating Diversity & Inclusion into the Hiring Process
Hiring for diversity is more important now than ever before. These training modules identify unconscious bias and barriers for diverse applicants in the interview and hiring process, and identify cultural competencies, skills, and methods for eliminating barriers, inclusive interviewing, and hiring a diverse workforce.
What This Training Is and Is Not
This training is grounded in decades of Lila Kelly’s research and experience in diversity and inclusion, and the hiring process. It includes a variety of examples of situations where unconscious bias can exist, both at individual and systemic levels. Most of these examples can exist whether interviewing applicants or meeting new customers, patients, students, or their families.
This training is designed for the active learner to think more deeply about these issues. It is not a quick fix. Effective diversity work takes time, and this training is a great starting point that includes ideas and suggestions for continuing to raise awareness, eliminate bias, and make sustainable changes in your hiring process.
This training program has three comprehensive modules. They include racial/ethnic, disability, LGBT, age and size diversity.
The mini modules are taken from lessons in the three longer main modules. They include racial/ethnic diversity.
You can select individual modules of your choice or one of the full 3-module program options.

Participant’s comment:
“A lot of my supervisors don’t want to admit that they may not be prepared for an interview with a protected class candidate. Having the information be presented in an online format allows them to learn despite feeling vulnerable about their lack of knowledge. The videos of diverse candidates have been really helpful. Candidates brought up solutions to interview and on-boarding situations that I never thought of before. I would recommend this to others as a quality part of professional development for supervisors and HR professionals.” ―Tirzah McPherson, Inclusion Administrator, County Government

BLENDED LEARNING WORKSHOPS
Blended Learning workshops start with participants completing one or more of the training modules, which identify unconscious bias both at the individual and system levels and present methods to eliminate barriers it creates for people of diverse backgrounds. The online training portion gets everyone on the same page with the topic and ready for a rich in-person discussion.
Participants then attend a live facilitated discussion (in-person or virtual) that brings them to a deeper level of learning. These sessions create a more open line of communication for discussing what are often sensitive topics related to diversity and inclusion between your management team and staff, allowing managers to hear what their staff are feeling and to get their suggestions for improvement. The facilitator assists participants through a process that guides their learning to action steps that are tailored to their individual workplace.

Participant’s comment:
“I was surprised by how effective it was in helping me admit to unconscious biases. Group follow up to one-on-one online learning can be effective in gauging where the organization is at and in building consensus and continuity.”
